Center for Vaccine Development and Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland, USA This article is a review of studies in which endotoxin has been administered to human subjects for experimental purposes. Data are presented in tabular form so the reader can better appreciate the objectives of individual studies. Although the original intention was to focus on the adverse events associated with these studies, unexpected serious adverse events rarely have been reported.
